The field of behavioral economics is booming with exponential growth across science, practice, and policy designs. Operant behavioral economics is a specific approach that integrates operant learning and microeconomic principles to understand how environmental constraints impact consumption of goods and services that may function as rewards. This approach has become a major component in behavioral pharmacology, behavioral medicine, and applied behavior analysis. Handbook of Operant Behavioral Economics Demand, Discounting, Methods, and Applications covers two major domains of operant behavioral economics: operant demand and reward discounting. This book reviews the historical foundations of this approach, both human and nonhuman research methods for studying demand and discounting, quantitative modeling of these processes, and educational and clinical applications. The last section provides the readers with a specific discussion on how to begin translating these concepts to policy development and resources for starting a line of research in these areas. Written for graduate students, clinicians, and academics, Handbook of Operant Behavioral Economics Demand, Discounting, Methods, and Applications serves as a resource for readers both new to behavioral economics and those with specific expertise in the field.

Gilroy, Shawn P.
Dr. Gilroy is an Assistant Professor of School Psychology at Louisiana State University. His research centers on translating principles of behavior analysis and behavioral economics into approaches for improving academic and behavioral interventions. He writes extensively on models of operant demand and explores their application towards socially significant choice, e.g., treatment-seeking, pseudoscience.

Reed, Derek D.
Dr. Reed is Professor of Applied Behavioral Science at the University of Kansas, where he directs the Applied Behavioral Economics Lab, and is a scientist with the Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment. His research programs apply behavioral economic principles to understand and treat issues of societal importance. He is an author of a textbook and has co-edited three other books. He has served as Associate Editor for Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, The Psychological Record, and Behavior Analysis in Practice. Dr. Reed was previously the Executive Director for the Society for the Quantitative Analyses of Behavior and Coordinator for the ABAI Science Board. His research program has been recognized with the APA Division 25 B. F. Skinner New Applied Researcher Award, and the Federation of Associations of Behavioral and Brain Sciences' Early Career Impact Award. He has over 180 publications.

Kaplan, Brent A.
Dr. Kaplan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He obtained his PhD from the University of Kansas in 2016 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Virginia Tech in 2019. He leverages behavioral economic principles to better understand, characterize, and evaluate treatments for alcohol and cigarette substance use. One of Dr. Kaplan's interests is developing and publishing on software tools and quantitative methods to aid in behavioral economic research. He developed and maintains the R package demand, which facilitates behavioral economic demand analyses.
