Atulya K. Nagar, the Foundation Chair and Professor of Mathematical Sciences, presently serves as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research at Liverpool Hope University in the UK. He holds a significant legacy as the Founding Dean of the Faculty of Science and the inaugural Head of the School of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering, which he established at the institution. A recipient of a distinguished Commonwealth Fellowship, he earned his doctorate (D.Phil.) in Nonlinear Mathematics from the University of York in 1996. His academic journey includes an impressive educational background, obtaining a B.Sc. (Hons in Mathematics and Physics), M.Sc. (Pure and Applied Mathematics), and M.Phil. (with distinction) specialising in Relativistic Cosmology from the MDS University of Ajmer in India.Prior to joining Liverpool Hope in September 2001, Prof. Nagar held roles at Brunel University, London, within the Departments of Mathematical Sciences and Systems Engineering. His academic experience extends to the landscape of Indian higher education, marked by his positions as a visiting professor at prestigious institutions like the University of Madras, along with lecturing engagements at revered Indian institutions such as the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) and BITS Pilani.

Internationally renowned for his scholarly contributions, Prof. Nagar is at the forefront of nonlinear mathematical analysis, theoretical computer science, and systems engineering. His research expertise spans mathematical and computational methods, particularly addressing non-linear, complex, and intractable problems across scientific, engineering, and industrial domains. Commencing his research career as a Mathematical Physicist, his early work delved into Relativistic Cosmology and Differential Forms, eventually steering his exploration into the applications of nonlinear mathematics, and applications within bio-mathematics. Prof. Nagar has also edited volumes on Applied Mathematics and Intelligent Systems/AI.

With extensive editorial involvement, he has served as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing (IJAISC) and holds positions on editorial boards of esteemed journals. Additionally, he co-edits two Springer Book series: Algorithms for Intelligent Systems (AIS) and Innovations in Sustainable Technologies and Computing (ISTC). His prolific research output boasts over 550 publications in prestigious outlets.

Engaged in strategic research bodies in the UK, Prof. Nagar contributes to various panels and advisory roles, including the JISC Research Strategy group, UKRI’s Talent Panel College (TPC), and advisory positions for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC). He has held reviewing roles for esteemed organisations such as the Emirates Research Foundation, Qatar Research Foundation, A*STAR Institute of Singapore, AHRC’s Technical Peer-Review College, EPSRC, and BBSRC. Additionally, Prof. Nagar serves as a member of the Impact Accelerator Panel for EPSRC, furthering his commitment to advancing impactful research and innovation within the UK academic landscape. An active participant in fostering young talent, Prof. Nagar serves as a judge for the International Challenge Using Differential Equations Modelling, guiding and evaluating the work of promising young mathematicians. His contributions to the field have earned him fellowships in prestigious institutions such as the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (FIMA) and the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Raised in India, Prof. Nagar attended the Esteemed St. Anselm’s School in Ajmer, a Roman Catholic institution in Northern India, fostering an upbringing within an ecumenical environment.
