David A. Thompson, MD, FACEP, is a faculty attending in the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Emergency Department, Chicago, Il. He is board certified in internal and emergency medicine and is a Fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians. Starting in 1999, Dr. Thompson began to work collaboratively with Barton Schmitt, MD, FAAP, to improve telephone triage. Since then, Dr. Thompson has authored a comprehensive set of adult telephone triage protocols used extensively in medical call centers and physician offices in the United States, Canada, and other countries.

Dr. Thompson has over 2 decades of experience working in the areas of clinical informatics, telehealth, decision support, natural language processing (NLP), and medical coding and documentation. He has developed software, databases, and tools to enhance the patient and provider experience for eHealth, medical call centers, emergency department, and telemedicine. Dr. Thompson lectures on digital health, telephone triage, physician documentation and coding, quality improvement, and patient satisfaction. Dr. Thompson is Founder and CEO of Health Navigator LLC and is co-founder of Schmitt-Thompson Clinical Content.
