About the International Institute of Space Law
The International Institute of Space Law (IISL), founded in 1960, is a global non-governmental organization promoting space law development. Its members, from over 40 countries, are elected for their contributions to space law or related fields. Since 1992, the IISL has hosted the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, where student teams tackle hypothetical space law cases. The IISL is an official observer at UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) sessions and organizes space law conferences.
