This book provides an overview of the main methods and results inthe formal study of the human decision-making process, as definedin a relatively wide sense. A key aim of the approach containedhere is to try to break down barriers between various disciplinesencompassed by this field, including psychology, economics andcomputer science. All these approaches have contributed to progressin this very important and much-studied topic in the past, but nonehave proved sufficient so far to define a complete understanding ofthe highly complex processes and outcomes. This book provides thereader with state-of-the-art coverage of the field, essentiallyforming a roadmap to the field of decision analysis.
The first part of the book is devoted to basic concepts andtechniques for representing and solving decision problems, rangingfrom operational research to artificial intelligence. Laterchapters provide an extensive overview of the decision-makingprocess under conditions of risk and uncertainty. Finally, thereare chapters covering various approaches to multi-criteriadecision-making. Each chapter is written by experts in the topicconcerned, and contains an extensive bibliography for furtherreading and reference.
