The Third Edition of Environmental Communication and the Public Sphere remains the only comprehensive introduction to the growing field of environmental communication. This innovative book focuses on the role that human communication plays in influencing the ways we perceive the environment. It also examines how we define environmental 'problems' and decide what actions to take with regards to the natural world.

Robert Cox incorporates his vast experience to offer insights about the workings of news media, government, environmental conflict, advocacy campaigns, and other real-world cases of environmental communication.

He introduces the reader to all the major areas of this evolving field, the social construction of 'environment' public participation in environmental decisions, conflict resolution, news media and environmental journalism, social media and the environment (Twitter, Facebook, apps), environmental advocacy campaigns, message construction, corporate advocacy, advertising and “greenwashing,” environmental justice and “climate justice,” science communication, and risk communication.
