Crandall, William Rick
William “Rick” Crandall (PhD, University of Memphis) is professor of Management at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Previously, Dr Crandall taught for eleven years at Concord College, Athens, where he served on the college’s crisis management team. Dr Crandall’s articles on crisis management have appeared in a wide range of journals.
Parnell, John A
John A. Parnell (PhD, University of Memphis, EdD, Campbell University; MAEd, East Carolina University) is the William Henry Belk Distinguished Professor of Management at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he was recipient of the 2005 Adolph Dial Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity.
William “Rick” Crandall, PhD., University of Memphis, is professor of management in the School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Previously, Dr. Crandall taught for eleven years at Concord College in Athens, WV. During his tenure, he developed an interest in crisis management and served on the college’s crisis management team. Dr. Crandall’s articles on crisis management have appeared in SAM Advanced Management Journal, Central Business Review, Internal Auditing, Business Horizons, International Journal of Sustainable Strategic Management, Security Management, and Southern Business Review. Dr. Crandall has addressed various audiences on crisis management in the United States, China, Poland and the United Kingdom. Dr. Crandall is also co-author of the book, New Methods of Competing in the Global Marketplace: Critical Success Factors from Service and Manufacturing and Principles of Supply Chain Management both with CRC Press. Prior to entering higher education, Dr. Crandall worked in management for ARA Services (now ARAMARK), a service management firm based in Philadelphia.
Dr. John A. Parnell currently serves as the William Henry Belk Distinguished Professor of Management at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he was recipient of the 2005 Adolph Dial Award for Scholarly & Creative Activity. He completed the B.S.B.A., M.B.A., and M.A.Ed. degree from East Carolina University, the Ed.D. degree from Campbell University, and the Ph.D. degree from The University of Memphis. His academic career includes a number of institutions, including service as Professor and Head of the Department of Marketing & Management at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He received the H.M. Lafferty Distinguished Faculty Award at A&M-Commerce in 2002, the Adolph Dial Award for Scholarly & Creative Activity at UNC-Pembroke in 2005, and the Pope Center Spirit of Inquiry award in 2011.Dr. Parnell is a recognized authority in the field, having published more than 200 articles, cases, proceedings, books and book chapters in strategic management and related fields. Recent work appears in leading journals such as Academy of Management Learning and Education, Management Decision, and the British Journal of Management. He serves on a number of academic journal editorial boards and consults with select firms in the area of strategic planning. He has also appeared frequently as a guest discussing issues related to business and competitiveness on Sirius XM’s The Wilkow Majority.Dr. Parnell has lectured at a number of institutions abroad, including Instituto Tecnologico Y De Estudios Superiores De Monterrey-Campus Estado de Mexico (ITESM-CEM), Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan, and China University of Geosciences in Beijing. He also served as a Fulbright Scholar in Cairo, Egypt, in 1995.

He has traveled extensively with extended visits to Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia. Prior to entering higher education, Dr. Spillan worked in New York State as a Rate Setting Analyst.
