Time of flight mass spectrometry identifies the elements of acompound by subjecting a sample of ions to a strong electricalfield. Illuminating emerging analytical techniques inhigh-resolution mass spectrometry, Liquid ChromatographyTime-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry shows readers how to analyzeunknown and emerging contaminants--such as antibiotics, steroids, analgesics--using advanced mass spectrometrytechniques. The text combines theoretical discussion with concreteexamples, making it suitable for analytical chemists, environmentalchemists, organic chemists, medicinal chemists, university researchchemists, and graduate and post-doctorate students.

Imma Ferrer, PHD, has twelve years of hands-on experience in iontrap, triple quadrupole, and time-of-flight mass spectrometry ofsmall molecules as applied to environmental and pharmaceuticalchemistry. She is currently a Professional Research Associate ofthe Center for Environmental Mass Spectrometry at the University ofColorado in Boulder, Colorado. She is the author of the book LiquidChromatography/Mass Spectrometry, MS/MS and Time-of-Flight MS:Analysis of Emerging Contaminants. She is also the author ofnumerous highly cited papers on the analysis of pesticides andpharmaceuticals by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry.
E. Michael Thurman, PHD, is a highly cited scientist inenvironmental chemistry and an Emeritus Scientist with the U.S.Geological Survey. He is currently Director of the Center forEnvironmental Mass Spectrometry at the University of Colorado, inBoulder, Colorado. His bibliography consists of more than 200publications in environmental chemistry, including more than 100journal articles, twenty proceedings and chapters, and eighty U.S.Geological Survey publications. Dr. Thurman has published fivebooks dedicated to the chemical analysis of pesticides and naturalproducts, sample preparation, and mass spectrometry.
