Drawing on data from national and Eurobarometer surveys, as well as anecdotal evidence from the news media, this book traces Euroscepticism (and Euro-optimism) in political discourse and its role in shaping public opinion in Portugal. The author charts the salience of key issues for Portuguese citizens during this period in order to understand the factors that shaped attitudes towards Europe. It maps the rise of sov-ereignty-based Euroscepticism against a theoretical framework of the twin concepts of populism and Euroscepticism. Finally, it puts key theoretical assumptions to the test in two case studies of Portugal's 2024 double elections. Is Portugal still an exception to a growing Eurosceptic trend?
