Hudgens, Michael Thomas
Michael Thomas Hudgens teaches philosophy at a university in the upper US Midwest, the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Among his courses are ethics and logic, with students who are mostly science and engineering majors.

For many years, he worked as a science editor in mainstream and specialty media. During 1978 and 1979, to finance a Master of Arts degree, he wrote research articles for medical journals. Although conversant in several fields, his background is in physics, his first love.

Hudgens received his PhD from the University of South Dakota, and his Master of Arts degree from Loyola Marymount University. His doctoral work was devoted to the Modernist English movement, MA to medieval literature.

Before returning to university to finish his degrees, he worked as a newspaper reporter in Houston, Texas. He later became arts and entertainment editor for that newspaper, The Houston Post, and regularly reviewed theatre and film.

He has written several books, including a 2001 monograph, Donald Barthelme, Postmodernist American Writer, as well as two online titles, a fictional account of the 1993 Waco tragedy, Theseus at Waco, and a 2003 textbook for his own course in logic, Sticks and Stones and Spoken Words.

He is married to the former Susan Ann Byre, and between them they have six children and six grandchildren. Susan and Michael live on a six-acre spread in the Black Hills of South Dakota with their black cat, Nyx.
