Fused Pyranones: Multifaceted Building Blocks for Molecular Diversity covers the synthesis and chemical reactivity of fused pyranone ring systems, such as coumarin, isocoumarin, chromonone, chroman-4-one, and others, as well as their applications in the fields of drug discovery and material sciences. Mechanisms of the chemical reactions are covered, along with the steps to formation of final products. This book is ideal for organic, medicinal and material chemists and researchers working to build target compounds for pharmaceuticals and materials, as well as those working in food supplements, perfumery, and cell and animal imaging. - Includes various synthetic methodologies for generating molecular diversity - Covers natural and synthetic products with benzopyranone ring systems, which are used for the treatment of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, ulcers, allergies, asthma, fungal, and bacterial infections, and more - Discusses applications of these new chemical entities in the fields of drug discovery, food supplements, perfumery, preparation of new organic catalysts, and materials
Further to his superannuation as Dy. Director for the Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, UP, India, a world class, premier research Institute for drug development, Prof Ram became Emeritus professor and served various academic institutions for 10 years. Besides research experience, he has also earned 18 years of experience teaching heterocyclic chemistry to graduate and post-graduate classes. He has 256 publications to his name, including several review articles published in top chemistry journals. He is also recipient of prestigious fellowships from JSPS, Japan, Alexander von Humboldt (AvH), Germany and NIH, USA.
