Essam E. Khalil, received his B.S. (1971) and MS. (1973) Mechanical Engineering, from Cairo University, and his DIC (1976) and PhD (1977) from Imperial College of Science and Technology, London University, UK. He has been professor of mechanical engineering at Cairo University since June 1988. Khalil has published over 600 papers in journals and conference proceedings on combustion, energy and indoor air quality control and 12 published books.

Heba Allah Essam E. Khalil, is an associate professor at the Department of Architectural Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University. She has pursued scientific research in various fields including community development, participatory evaluation, informal areas development, energy efficient strategies in urban planning, sustainable urbanism, green rating systems, affordable housing, quality of life and strategic planning. She has professional experience both as an architect and as urban planner in various projects.
