Der Band bildet den Auftakt zu einer Edition des gesamten Corpus altmesoptamischer Götterlisten. Er enthält die Listen "An = Anum" (nebst Vorläufern) sowie "An = Anu ša ameli" und einige ähnliche, mehr oder weniger fragmentarische Listen. Die Götterliste An = Anum war mit ca. 2000 Einträgen die umfangreichste Liste ihrer Art. Sie ist systematisch angelegt und enthält Erklärungen sowie eingeschobene Zusammenfassungen einzelner Gruppen von Gottheiten. Die Textzeugen bieten in unterschiedlichem Umfang auch Aussprache- und Übersetzungsglossen. In der vorliegenden Edition wird jede Liste als Komposittext mit Übersetzung, kritischem Apparat und synoptischem Nachweis der Textzeugen präsentiert, es folgen jeweils philologische Kommentare. Zudem sind alle Textzeugen einzeln transliteriert. Namen, Wörter und Glossen werden durch detaillierte Indizes erschlossen. Handkopien bzw. Photos bisher unveröffentlichter Texte beschließen den Band.
