Lampas is a Dutch journal intended for anyone with a professional interest in all aspects of the study of Classical Antiquity, including Greek and Latin literature and linguistics, Ancient Philosophy and History, Classical Archaeology, Reception Studies as well as the teaching of Classical languages and culture in secondary schools. It aims in particular at establishing a dialogue between academic classicists and those teaching Classics in secondary schools.
To this end, Lampas publishes thematic issues with (commissioned) articles that are centered around a specific topic, often related to the Dutch final exams in Greek and Latin, as well as ordinary issues that consist of submitted articles. An important function of all these articles is to inform fellow classicist and in particular those teaching in schools about the most recent scholarly debates, developments and insights in the various sub-domains of our field. In conjunction with these articles, Lampas also contains various sections, e.g. a didactical section that offers annotated texts for use in the classroom and another section that signals recent publications on a topic of interest, thus offering an overview of a particular area of classical studies.
