She briefly describes each song and gives advice on its performance, showing where potential problems lie and how best to approach them. Around 100 music examples illustrate the text.

Jane Manning also makes suggestions on how to programme each piece in a concert. An appendix indicated from where scores can be obtained.

This book is useful both as a guide to choosing repertory and as a tutor on the practicalities of performance.

Über Autor(innen)

Jane Manning, OBE, is a freelance singer, and an internationally recognized exponent of contemporary vocal music. She made her professional debut in 1964, and continues to enjoy an active performing career. She frequently gives master classes and seminars for singers and composers at academic centres and festivals around the world. In 1988 she received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of York, and was awarded an OBE in 1990.
