Event Bidding aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the bidding processes surrounding the award of major peripatetic events. It will examine the rationale for undertaking such bids and explore how successful bids are developed and implemented. The text will draw on case studies of ‘mega events’ such as FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games as well as a range of smaller peripatetic events from across the world to analyse the bidding process and some of the increasingly controversial issues which emerge during the often lengthy and expensive bid campaigns. Finally, the text will reflect on a range of critical issues of contemporary significance in bidding contests such as the growing ethical issues surrounding the development and award of events and the management of oppositional movements.
This timely volume will provide a valuable contribution to what remains an undeveloped area of inquiry for events, sports and tourism students, researchers and academics.
