Statistic analysis covers a large domain of practical applications and often creates problems for students or people interested in understanding and exploiting the statistic features of real life situations. The book is designed to accompany the reader through theoretical statistics and to logically and gently guide him/her into their deep understanding and applying them in real life. The book integrates several perspectives on solving problems: specialized software which includes statistics library, such as Matlab, popular, general purpose packages as Microsoft Excel, and advanced programming languages as C and MPI. The last three chapters show by their applicative content the comprehensive power of the Statistics and the Probability Theory in approaching complex problems from broad domains. In the first three chapters the basic notions from statistic analysis and probability theory are presented. Chapter 4 extensively describes the functions of the statistical calculation toolbox in Matlab, applied in solving many specific problems presented in Chapters 1, 2 and 3. Chapters 4 and 5 come with real-world problems from finance, modeled with diverse tools; one is approached with a popular software package, and the other one is solved using modern communication technologies and parallel computing. All the applications are based only on the first three chapters, so the book is self-sufficient for the reader that masters the used software tools. The real-life situations described and solved can be understood by the reader, and (s)he can adapt them to the situations (s)he faces. The book is addressed to graduate students who can integrate the knowledge of statistics and probability theory in solving practical problems emerged in real life.
