Witold Pedrycz, PhD, is Professor and Canada Research Chairin Computational Intelligence at the University of Alberta, Canada.His research interests include granular computing, including fuzzyset technology, neural networks and evolutionary computing, patternrecognition, data mining, and emerging behavior and adaptivesystems. He has authored or edited eight books, over 200 papers injournals or volumes, and over forty conference papers. He is aFellow of the IEEE and IFSA.
Fernando Gomide, PhD, teaches in the Department ofComputer Engineering and Industrial Automation at the StateUniversity of Campinas (UNICAMP) in São Paulo, Brazil. Hisareas of interest include fuzzy sets and logic, artificialintelligence, and genetic algorithms.
