Widely used across many sectors, including oil refining, gas separation, CO2 capture and environmental remediation, zeolites are among the most important industrial, heterogeneous catalysts. This introductory book expands readers’ understanding of zeolite chemistry while bringing them up to speed on new discoveries and current trends in this area of research. Covering several topics, ranging from structure and synthesis to specific applications, Zeolites provides readers with a solid foundation to further explore these fascinating materials. Following a historical retrospective of research on these materials, Zeolites highlights their key mechanisms of synthesis and characterization, current and emerging applications in industry and environmental issues.

For undergraduate and graduate students alike, as well as for researchers new to the topic, this book introduces the significant impact and untapped potential of zeolites in catalysis.

Jirí Cejka

Jirí Cejka is a professor at Charles University. In 2005, he chaired the 3rd FEZA Conference on Zeolites, in Prague, and he frequently organizes workshops on zeolites and catalysis, such as the EFCATS School on Catalysis in 2018. His research interests include synthesis of zeolites and nanoporous materials, sorption, and catalysis. With a h-index of 68, Jirí Cejka is the co-author of 400 papers totalling more than 17000 citations and co-editor of 6 books. As a principal investigator, his projects have been funded by the ExPro programme of the Czech Science Foundation and Horizon Europe. In 2020, he received the FEZA baron Axel F. Cronsted Award with W. Roth.

David P. Serrano

D. P. Serrano is the Director of the IMDEA Energy Institute and a professor of chemical engineering at Rey Juan Carlos University, where he has held other positions, such as vice-rector for research and technological innovation and head of the chemical and environmental technology department. From 2015 to 2023, he was the President of the Spanish Zeolite Group. After graduating with a PhD from Complutense University of Madrid, he worked as a visiting researcher at CALTECH, returning to California in 2006 for a sabbatical at UCSB. Throughout his career, he has participated in approximately 80 research projects, including as the Coordinator of the FP7 EU CASCATBEL project, and co-authored 260 indexed publications (13,500 citations; h-index = 67). He was recently awarded an ERC Advanced Grant for the development of dendritic zeolites and in 2024 he was appointed as a member of Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences.
