Jean-Philippe Deranty Ph.D. in Philosophy (Paris IV-Sorbonne, 1998) is a Lecturer of Philosophy at Macquarie University. He has translated Hegel's first lectures on the philosophy of right ('Droit naturel et science de l'Etat, Paris', Vrin, 2002), and published articles on Hegel and contemporary social and political philosophy. He is completing a book on Axel Honneth to be published by Brill in 2007.

Nicholas H. Smith Ph.D. in Philosophy, (Glasgow, 1996) is a Senior Lecturer of Philosophy at Macquarie University. He is the author of 'Strong Hermeneutics: Contingency and Moral Identity' (1997) and Charles Taylor: 'Meaning, Morals and Modernity' (2002). He is the editor of 'Reading McDowell: On Mind and World' (2002).
