Mission Statement
The Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions (JCEHP) publishes articles on theory, research, practice, evaluation of outcomes and policy that contribute to the evolution of the health professions and the continuing professional development of healthcare professionals and healthcare teams.
Vision Statement
The Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions is committed to enabling and advancing the professional development of healthcare professionals around the world.
Aims and Scope
The Journal takes a modified definition of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) from Sargeant et al., (2013) which includes all health care professionals as part its raison d’être:
"CPD encompasses multiple educational and developmental activities which healthcare professionals undertake to maintain and enhance their knowledge, skills, performance and relationships in the provision of health care. The ultimate goal of CPD is to enhance the quality and safety of patient care and to enhance health outcomes."1
1Sargeant et al. Practicing Physicians' Needs for Assessment and Feedback as Part of Professional Development. J Contin Educ Health Prof 2013;33(S1).
This definition encompasses the development, delivery, evaluation and generalizability of educational interventions and facilitation of workplace learning. More specifically, JCEHP seeks to improve the scholarship and practice of CPD at the nexus of Patient Safety, Implementation Science, Quality Improvement, Workplace Learning, Continuing Education and Faculty Development across Medicine, Nursing and other health professions.
The aim of JCEHP is to support CPD activities across the professions that improve the exchange of knowledge between healthcare scientists, professionals, researchers, educators and patients. The Journal publishes CPD articles enhancing healthcare professionals’ knowledge and practice with the aim of improving healthcare outcomes. JCEHP is particularly concerned with research that seeks to generate and translate knowledge about best-practice implementation strategies relating to interprofessional and individual patient safety and quality of care practices.e
