This book is based on Evangelia Trouki’s doctoral thesis, presented at the Université de Strasbourg in 1993 under the supervision of Jean-François Bommelaer. Over the years, French archaeologists passing through Athens have consulted the thesis in manuscript form over and over again and it was essentially ready for publication in its original form as part of the Fouilles de Delphes collection. This research provides us with a valuable overview as it is based on an autopsy of the remains and a deep knowledge of the site by an academic who initially worked as part of the archaeology team on the Ephorate of Antiquities of Phocis before working with the French School at Athens for over thirty years. We are excited to present this work as, while the methods used here for the reports and drawings did not yet have the advantage of today’s technologies, Evangelia Trouki’s research provides us with first-hand documentation and a number of proposals relative to chronology that make it a must-read for the scientific community.
