The 26th EARSeL symposium of the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories (EARSeL) was held at the national library in Warsaw, Poland from May 29 to June 1, 2006. It was organized by the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography in Warsaw. The symposium was followed by the 1st workshop of the EARSeL Special Interest Group on Geological Applications, dedicated to geohazards with emphasis on lowland hazards. This volume contains the latest research achievements of the EARSeL network, presented at the symposium under the general theme 'New developments and challenges in remote sensing'. A balance has been sought between papers covering data processing techniques and those describing practical applications. The technical papers contained in this volume cover the following topics: Image processing techniques, data fusion, radar remote sensing, 3D remote sensing, while primarily application oriented papers cover the fields of agriculture, land use, land cover, oceans and coastal zones, water and atmosphere, environmental applications, imaging spectroscopy, land degradation and UNESCO World Heritage.
The papers are printed in black and white and are also found in full on the accompanying CD-ROM, including all full-color illustrations.
