The requirements for the operational management of the company’s information technology has changed both nationally and internationally and more competence in proper business conduct and management duties in information technology are needed in order to fulfil its role based upon expectations in the sense of good company management.
Based upon this main hypothesis, the following sub-theses can be derived.
The value contribution of IT to company success is not measured and/or financially assessed at the company. IT services and IT projects are in conflict between users’ expectations and the monetary and time budgets. This fact frequently has the result that the requirements (particularly the implicit requirements) are not implemented according to expectations – projects are declared to be failures.
The data for a requirements profile of service providers is collected, but, owing to a flawed business management interpretation and/or lack of knowledge about well-known IT governance reference models for the affected IT services and/or for the IT project, the subsequent realisation is flawed.
The required competences for the management and implementation of company information technology in the sense of good company management are oftentimes only insufficiently handled in business management as well as also informatics university study programmes.
