This volume presents the latest research results of the EARSeL network, presented at the symposium under the general theme 'Global Developments in Environmental Earth Observation from Space'. A balance has been sought between papers covering remote sensing and data processing techniques and those describing practical applications. The technical papers included in this volume cover new sensors and instruments, image processing techniques, data fusion, temporal analysis, 3D remote sensing, high resolution data, physical processes and atmosphere. The more practical papers include applications in the fields of agriculture forestry and vegetation, environmental monitoring, geological hazards, hydrology, land degradation and desertification, land use and land cover, oceanography, coastal zones, urban areas and world heritage - cultural and natural. The papers are printed in black and white and are also found in full on the accompanying CD, including all full-color illustrations.
