While gentrification has long been the subject of extensive research and debate, rural gentrification has largely been ignored, despite the term's increasing use by property developers, estate agent and planners. Bringing together a series of original studies from North America, Europe and Australasia, this book breaks new ground by highlighting and examining the presence of gentrification in the countryside. It considers the meaning of gentrification and explores a range of alternative theories on its production and its impacts within rural space. Concluding with a chapter by Neil Leach, the book also compares the connections and differences between gentrification in rural and urban contexts.
