Submarine Optical Cable Engineering presents a summary and exposition from authors engaged in the submarine optical cable engineering field. It systematically discusses the theory and practice of engineering site selection, route survey, laying construction, system maintenance, and safety in operation and information management, all topics relating to the long-term development and progress of science and technology. As there are now more than 230 extant systems, with a total length of more than one million kilometers, this book compiles the wealth of experience that has accumulated regarding their construction stemming from the first inter ocean submarine cable system (TAT-8) built in 1988.

Jiang, Wei
Mr. Jiang graduated from the Department of radio electronics of Shanghai University in 1994, has also received the MBA degree from Donghua University in 2004. He now works as the general manager and chief engineer of China Submarine Cable Construction Corporation, a subsidiary of China Telecom, and participated in the construction/maintenance of many international submarine optical cable systems, including FEA, SMW3, CUCN, APCN2, TPE, APG, NCP and PLCN. He has also taken part in the compilation of several books about submarine cable engineering and related national technical standards.

Jiang, Xinmin
Mr. Jiang has been deputy general manager of China Submarine Cable Construction Co., LTD., deputy general manager of S.B. Submarine Systems Co., LTD., vice president of Shanghai Long Distance & Wireless Communication Department of China Telecom, and China Telecom's chief representative of ICPC. He has engaged in underwater communication engineering for more than 40 years, and participated in and presided over the construction, maintenance and repair of many domestic and international submarine cable systems, including China's first international undersea coaxial communication cable in 1976, China's first international submarine optical cable system in 1993, and maintenance and repair of optical cables in the Asia-Pacific region.

YE, Yin-can
Professor Ye graduated from the Department of Geology, Nanjing University in 1966. He works as the General Engineer of Second Institute of Oceanography, State Oceanic Administration, China, with more than 40-years' experience on marine engineering geology, engineering geophysics, oceanography, and application research in key technology of ocean engineering construction. He led many researches on marine geo-hazards, marine environment and safety engineering, seafloor detection, and in-situ test techniques. Until now, Prof. Ye published more than 90 papers and 3 books, edited 2 national technical standards.

Pan, Guofu
Professor Pan is a PhD in marine geology and geophysics. After graduating from Tongji University in 1986, he joined Second Institute of Oceanography, State Oceanic Administration of China to work on marine geological and geophysical survey for deep sea resources exploration, environmental research and engineering site investigations. Since 1993, he participated in the formulation of related national technical standards and monographs, and presided over the desktop study and route survey of many domestic and international submarine optical cable systems in China seas.
